• Feral rabbit control program: The Harbour Trust is taking part in the feral rabbit control program scheduled for the Greater Sydney Local Government Areas, including North Head Sanctuary and Headland Park on Monday 2 March 2026. This involves the release of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV1-K5) in chopped carrot. The program is coordinated through the Greater Sydney Local Land Services and is carried out concurrently by land managers throughout the Sydney region. The baiting process is closely monitored and any dead rabbits reported will be removed from site. Importantly, the RHDV is harmless to humans and all other animal species. Domestic rabbits can be vaccinated against the virus by local vets. If you see a dead or dying rabbit, please contact the ranger (7am to 4pm) on  0432 750 714 or security staff (4pm to 7am) on 0433 631 572.

• Filming notice (18 to 21 May): A feature film will be filmed on Cockatoo Island between Monday 18 May and Thursday 21 May up until midnight. During this time, we anticipate there will be audible noise impacts in surrounding areas into the late evening. Due to the scale of the scene, it may sound like a fireworks display. The scene also involves a flare being shot into the sky. Safety protocols have been put in place and have positioned the filming locations to help minimise noise impacts.

• Access to Industrial Precinct and Sutherland Dock (11 to 25 May): Due to a feature film being filmed on Cockatoo Island, there will be limited access to the Industrial Precinct and Sutherland Dock from Monday 11 May to Monday 25 May. Furthermore, there will be no access to Camber Wharf, Sutherland Dock and the Dog Leg Tunnel when filming is in progress in evening between Monday 18 to Thursday 21 May. Our holiday accommodation, cafes and other areas of the island will remain open to visitors during this period. We apologise for any inconvenience.

• Partial closure of Bolt Wharf area: A section of Bolt Wharf along the eastern edge of Cockatoo Island has been closed to visitors. A fence has been erected for safety reasons and to isolate this area ahead of forthcoming conservation works to Bolt Wharf and cranes. This area will remain closed until sometime in 2026.

• Fox baiting: NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is carrying out an ongoing baiting program at North Head Sanctuary to control foxes for the protection of native fauna including threatened species such as Long-nosed Bandicoots and Little Penguins. The program uses manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors containing 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate). Warning signs are located at the entries to sites being baited. Visitors are advised not to touch the baits or ejectors. Further, pets may be affected (1080 is lethal to dogs and cats) and are not permitted at North Head Sanctuary. Working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. Penalties apply for non-compliance. • Warringah Freeway upgrade: As part of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade project, Alfred Street off ramp and southbound access on Alfred Street North from Kurraba Road to Mount Street will be temporarily closed to all traffic until late-2025. As a result, there may be an increase in local traffic near Sub Base Platypus during this time. Please allow extra travel time, plan ahead and consider using public transport.
